olivia broadfield and vince p: two up and comers to look out for

a couple new and very different artists caught my ear recently, each on the rise in their distinctive styles, and each with new albums.

olivia broadfield. yow.

is an adorably cute singer/songwriter from the uk who creates a luscious mixture of acoustic instruments, electronic keyboards and a soothing, warm vocals. while some say her work is reminscent of , i hear twinges of too. either way, you win.

vince p has a lot of support

on the other side of the spectrum we’ve got some chicago hip hop from . with a swagger to his rhymes, he’s got good things happening: one of urb’s “next 100″ for 2008, playing at the upcoming sxsw in march, and an upcoming album “the next big thing in pop culture” being released by universal this summer. his track “justice iii” uses a personal favorite song as the locomotive for his catchy rap stylings. keep your ears peeled.
