Watching this gives me a new take on Vanilla Ice: reverse discrimination. Let’s admit it. He’s a great dancer. Everyone liked the song when it came out, before they knew what the guy looked like. It’s one of the best samples ever. Listen to how excited this crowd is. This is definitely no worse than other mainstream hip-hop that came out in 1989. If not for his stupid “from the street” comment (and would a black artist have been pressed so hard on his street credibility?) he would have been MC Hammer. I’m glad that by the late ’90s America was finally ready to accept the idea of a white rapper. tim
