Stephen does not — not — want you to take his interview with Lawrence Lessig and remix it with a pumping k-hole groove.
one of the things i’ve wanted to do for a long time at creative commons is to put together a guide to cc-licensing that was specific to musicians and/or people working in the music industry (and particularly the NEW music industry). luckily, help came in the form of the very awesome – an organization dedicated to creating open tools for artists and the music industry. jesse von doom at cash took the lead in creating the guide, which includes a basic intro to the concepts behind cc as well as some use case studies with info about how artists like nine inch nails, kristin hersh, radiohead, deerhoof, and jonathan coulton have all used creative commons licenses to achieve a variety of aims. the guide just launched this week – !

fellow la peepers – the homies () and (/) are launching a new weekly at hyperion tavern, starting tomorrow night. it’s called calling all kids and it’s sure to be fun times. see you there?
the feel-good friday spot for the open-minded / open-eared kid in you.

i just got turned on to the ridiculously rad music site by sneakmove’s pal . i’m mad i didn’t know about it sooner! the best way i can describe it is as a combination of muxtape, hype machine, and twitter. you set up a profile, search for artists or songs, and any that have been posted online by someone come up in the results. you can then “blip” a song via a short post that resembles a tweet, and anyone who sees your blip can then stream that entire song. you can also easily create playlists made up of your own blips as well as those from other users – once you’ve set one up, just hit play, and you’ve got yourself an instant online mix, with no downloads needed. it’s pretty effing slick. check out to listen to the songs i’ve blipped, or check out my current to see which other blip users i’ve been following.
man i used to looove this track. three of the dopest west coast rappers of the mid-’90s- ahmad, ras kass, and saafir – teamed up in 1994 to record this for the soundtrack to . so many good lines in this, like “got 357 calibers / to bust a sucker’s melon like gallagher.” love it. i didn’t realize there was a video for it until now – ahmad himself recently posted it on youtube. awesome. mp3 download link below.
