a couple new and very different artists caught my ear recently, each on the rise in their distinctive styles, and each with new albums.

olivia broadfield. yow.
olivia broadfield is an adorably cute singer/songwriter from the uk who creates a luscious mixture of acoustic instruments, electronic keyboards and a soothing, warm vocals. while some say her work is reminscent of feist, i hear twinges of emiliana torrini too. either way, you win.
you can grab her new album, “eyes wide open” from her site, or get it on amazon.

vince p has a lot of support
on the other side of the spectrum we’ve got some chicago hip hop from vince p. with a swagger to his rhymes, he’s got good things happening: one of urb’s “next 100″ for 2008, playing at the upcoming sxsw in march, and an upcoming album “the next big thing in pop culture” being released by universal this summer. his track “justice iii” uses a personal favorite justice song as the locomotive for his catchy rap stylings. keep your ears peeled.
