los angeles: "this is the life" screening - awesome la hip-hop documentary

this thursday (july 31) marks the los angeles premiere of this is the life - a documentary that explores the vibrant and influential hip-hop scene that emerged in the early '90s from a south central LA health food store called the good life. fans of freestyle fellowship, project blowed, beneath the surface, etc., will definitely want to check it out.

Directed by former Good Life emcee Ava DuVernay, the film features interviews and performances from members of Freestyle Fellowship, Jurassic 5 and more. Good Life archivist Fat Mike will be DJing, and a filmmaker Q&A with Ava DuVernay will follow the screening.

LA: twenty120 screening + launch party next thursday

twenty120 is 20 short films - each 120 seconds long - made by directors from all around this great big world of ours. the theme of the collection is truth v. deception, a conflict we allllll know a thing or two about. our superpal connor helped put this project together, but even if we didn't know him, we'd still think it was pretty awesome.

the first public screening of twenty120 is happening on thursday (july 17, 2008) in hollywood at cinespace. it's free and there's complimentary beer and wine, and you should go. space is limited and your rsvp is required, so check out the twenty120 site for info (and a cool trailer) and get your répondez on.
