destroy cowboy - new tracks released

another rockin' submission to sneakmove. destroy cowboy, from birmingham uk, has released four new tracks on their myspace page. energetic and soaring rock anthems with heavy keyboards over driving guitars, the type of band that would sound great in a large outdoor arena on a warm summer night.

check out 1000 candles (mp3)

murder mystery cd review

the fellas from murder mystery sent in their new cd for sneakmove to check out. "are you ready for the heartache cause here it comes" has 12 poppy guitar-driven tracks that are reminiscent of buddy holly, 80's elvis costello, and a dash of they might be giants (especially on my favorite track "love astronaut").

the foursome hails from nyc, composing of a brother-sister combo and two close friends. check their myspace page to sample some tracks, and download love astronaut here (mp3).

iran so far - another snl short you'll see plenty this week

andy samberg is almost too good for this show. another classic, with a wonderful surprise cameo.

bonde do role in san francisco recap video

bonde do role powered through san francisco for another high-energy show. in the face of some technical trouble they gave their all and showed the crowd why they've been blowing up.

check out the video montage and don't forget to grab a copy of minicomp2 with an exclusive bdr track that will keep you bouncing.

(thanks, gorky, pedro, and marina .)

robert seidler

if you lived in the bay area in the late 80s, there's a reasonable chance you'll know this jam by robert seidler. live 105 played the hell out of it. it fit the times perfectly. kinda rockin' in a rick springfield way, but with a flock of seagulls meets new order thing going on too. a more ethereal gene loves jezebel? who knows. check it out. it's one of my favorite songs.

roman ruins

there's a great new record by oakland's own roman ruins. expertly written and skillfully executed pop songs. guitar drums, keys, strings. some of the tracks have a beatles-ish quality, some have a more modern indie rock feel. check a track.

gondry for the razr2

likin' this brand new michel gondry motorola commercial for the razr2. the man inspires me even when he's selling me something.

first novels

i'm really into the songs posted on myspace by the oakland/santa rosa guitar duo first novels. great melodies and harmonies and great dueling acoustic guitar work. certain songs remind me of john fahey or donovan or acoustic kinks songs. they are criminally without a label somehow. so, if you know someone who runs a label, pass on this post on as a hot tip. check a track:

snl's dick-in-a-box wins emmy award

not surprising enough that it was even just nominated, the snl parody song "dick in a box" (with justin timberlake and andy samberg, if you're not one of the 26million that have viewed it yet) won the emmy for best original music and lyrics.

check out the bbc's report for their very professional way of describing the song and video.

hi-res midi

this metafilter item is very interesting. apparently there is such a thing as hi-res midi which can capture the finest detail in a human musical performance. from there, it can be transposed for automatic re-performance by midi compatible instruments. these newly recreated performances can be rendered in pristine super audio cd format, effectively delivering a recording with superior fidelity. cool and creepy.

(thanks, glenn.)

sigur ros movie trailer

this is not new really, but it looks super cool. ultra hi def footage of sigur ros playing shows in small icelandic towns. the way-better-than-youtube version is here.
