"ricky bobby" trailer

check out the new trailer for the will ferrell nascar comedy talladega nights: the ballad of ricky bobby. the preview is a little light on laughs, if you ask me, but with that cast i can't imagine that it won't be pretty funny.

for those who haven't gotten their celeb gossip fix today, people reports that the simmons are splitting. the immortal tyra banks has a nice quote about their relationship at the bottom of the short article.

fans of electro or old school rap in the style of afrika bambaata should know that egyptian lover recently released his first new record in 7 years. just for a day posted a couple tracks. be ready to shake it.
just as the title might indicate, i have no idea what this is good for.The NCSA has constructed a PlayStation 2 Linux cluster as a test bench for scientific computation on "toy" hardware. The cluster consists of 65 compute nodes, 4 user login and development nodes, and 1 prototype node for software installation tests. All the nodes run the Sony Linux distribution for PlayStation 2.maybe this page will clarify things for you. i'm still in the dark, but that rack of ps2s looks cool...
sure he's going to jail for 6 years but let's not forget the one gift he gave the world: red scorpion. entertaining article about it all in the weekly standard.

i've been converting some of my fave jazz records to mp3s. it's been fun. straightfoward and enjoyable stuff. here're some selections...
I came across this interesting article from AP's less boring new service, asap. The article is about an interesting new site called myheritage. The site does more than match your looks with a hot celebrity, it seeks "to make it easier for people around the world to use the power of the Internet to discover their heritage and strengthen their bonds with family and friends"...blah blah blah now go see which celebrity you look like!

i saw page france play last night at cafe du nord in san francisco. the band is heavily blogged about and after seeing them play, it makes even more sense. best show i've seen in a while. the songs are very simple. mostly acoustic guitar-driven and augmented by sparse drums, xylophone, piano, and bass. the lyrics have a sweet kind of pessimism with repeating themes of wind, being carried, royalty, cherubs, and dogs. it's all delivered with a rapturous energy. a new dual e.p. is coming out. highly recommended.

like opening a treasure chest of spices and jewels, we've found a few more copies of the wesh classic by forest fires collective - "you can't see" -- it's up in the sneakmove store along with the meanest man contest/jim yoshii pileup split 7" (which you NEED to own--can you believe it's only $3?), minicomp (crazy secret-we're almost out!) and rock drum breaks cd. and more to come so check back soon!

silence is a rhythm too had a nice post the other day about "post-punk". among the mp3s posted was a great track by a scottish band called scars. super good. from their 1981 album author! author!. they alternate between a melodic, floaty verse and a dissonant, stabby chorus. maybe like wire meets flock of seagulls.

anyone checked out dana carvey's action-packed show where he flies around in helicopters and saves the country? oh yeah, it came out in 1984. a few years later, he was church lady. file this in the "i had no idea" category.
holy crap! the elegant, artsy rock supergroup roxy music is back together with brian eno and is working on a new record.

once again, it's youtube.com to the rescue. they meet all of my absurd 80s nostalgia needs. this one is jason bateman and alyssa milano hosting a tv presentation of mario on ice. that's mario from nintendo. the evil koopa is played by the guy who plays mr. belvedere! good stuff.

an eagle-eyed sneakmove editor found a gem of a shoutout on the wonderful "winnipeg women magazine" website (read the first paragraph). If you’re feeling crafty, you can make your own case. We like the one seen on sneakmove.com.and we like you guys too! let's plan to have a mixer, very soon.
check out this fun track by jimmy heath. it's not unlike an early-60s coltrane number. features the great stanley cowell on fender rhodes and curtis fuller on trombone. from love and understanding. 1973. muse.
a month ago i talked to a dude who had the sickest custom multicolored, pattern shifting led bike spoke setup. he made them himself (as part of squid labs) but said they're too pricey to make and sell. but now a new, simplified but still super rad project has surfaced online: diy bike spoke tweakable led project, complete with full instructions and photos. the source code (???) for that page has info on where to buy the components.

here's a fresh song from the great saxophone player sonny stitt. allmusicguide.com gives his constellation lp 5 out of 5 stars. it's a liker. 1972. muse.
charles mcpherson plays saxophone. jazz. just straight ahead, be-bopish jazz. no funky drums, no superfluous singer, no "walls of guitar". he'll make you happy. the title track from mcpherson's mood is str8 infectious. 1969. prestige.
quick blurb in today's cinematical.com about the upcoming cin city 2 movie. if it's even half as good as the first, it's a must-see.

like a lot of veteran jazz musicians, larry coryell made some cool early records and by the mid-seventies was off in smooth/fusion stinktown. coryell also has the dubious distinction of being one of the originators of jazz fusion. back in the early days, legendary drummer bernard purdie joined coryell on his second record, coryell. the resulting songs were loud, driving, and funky. "no one really knows" is a carole king-ish jazz-pop number until purdie comes in with a crazy drum break. mayhem ensues. 1969. vanguard.
We're very excited to announce the first CC Salon, taking place in San Francisco on Wednesday, March 8 from 6pm-9pm at Shine (1337 Mission Street). In the spirit of gatherings organized by groups like Remix Reading, Dorkbot, and Copynight, CC Salon will be a casual affair focused on conversation and community-building open to anyone interested in art, technology, education, and copyright.
We've scheduled three terrific presenters for March 8: Wagner James Au (Second Life), Josh Kinberg (FireAnt), and Eddie Codel (Geek Entertainment TV). There will also be music provided by the awesome Minus Kelvin (read about him here).
Shine is a bar (so, it's 21+). Please invite your friends, colleagues, and anyone you know who might be interested in drinks and discussion.
We've set up a wiki where you can find the latest information about CC Salon. This will also serve as a place where the community can contribute ideas, make suggestions, and submit proposals for future events.
We look forward to seeing you there!
I figured some Oscar fanfare would be necessary to display here on Sneakmove. One interesting fact is that Mark Cuban is up for two Oscars, one for "Good Night, and Good Luck" which is a contender in six categories, including Best Picture and Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room," which is up for a Best Documentary Feature. Click here to read all about it.
As for Ne-yo, the name of the game is to decrease the chances of a sale here. If you were to pick up handful of Ne-yo CDs, as if you were about to buy them, but then changed your mind and didn't bother to put them back in the same place, that would work. Even though this record will be heavily stocked and you might not be able to move all the stock, just relocating a handful creates issues: Even though the store will appear to be out of stock, the computer will see it as in stock and not re-order the title once it sells down and then Ne-Yo will lose a few sales later in the week

i was recently shown the site turnhere.com, and promptly spent a few hours being unable to stop watching. it's a collection of short user-made films focusing on various neighborhoods. most of the hip spots have been done (williamsburg, the mission, hollywood) but the clips about the quirky small places are where the magic happens. the complete list of vids can be hard to find, so here's the direct link.TurnHere is a new online video travel portal revolutionizing the short travel documentary and combining the two hottest trends on the web today: video and navigation. We are based in Emeryville.(thanks, sizod.)
We are looking for smart experienced filmmakers to create 3-minute character-driven internet films about San Francisco's neighborhoods (and other Bay Area locales). The ideal filmmaker has a feel for the street and the off-beat.
Knows how to find "tour guides" that can bring flavor and fun to the screen while giving an outsider an inside look at hip hidden gems in diverse hoods. Your movie will capture the feel of the neighborhood and will be interesting for locals as well as others across the country to watch online.
