the people vs. james frey

readers are suing random house for gross negligence in not fact checking james frey's a million little pieces.
In a federal class-action suit, readers said the book was a waste of time and they should be reimbursed for the cost of the tome and the hours they spent reading it.

Seriously? what a joke. Maybe peterson & zambito should sue their employer by thinking that this is actually newsworthy. It's still a good read, fiction or not.
Isn't all this publicity helping sales of Frey's work?

I think the real story everyone's missing here is that Frey is clearly the direct offspring of Sacramento Kings coach Rick Adelman.

But seriously, this is ridiculous. It's kind of like returning The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe because you find out after the fact that it's religious allegory. Well, sort of.

I'd also say that chances are about 90% of "autobiographical" books out there are exaggerated in one way or another. But, then again, I guess Oprah doesn't tell millions of people to buy Jimmy Buffet's books based on the power of their truthiness.

Think of all the employers who could sue their workers for resume embellishments...
