best video of the week

in fact, maybe of the year. sure, its old--year 2000 (rules be damned, i know you've never seen it anyway)--but the combination of intense dance beats, moving yet comic video, and the rawness of mexican rock duos makes this surpass my last video of the week (cromeo's needy girl).
watch here: human disco ball by plastilina mosh.

"hot" news for arrested development

sizzling actress charlize theron will be guesting on the show.
Arrested Development has apparently developed a cult following of its own among Hollywood’s A-list, with Academy Award-winning actress Charlize Theron signing on to guest-star in a five-episode arc this coming season.

salon's audiofile says that it's the "indie" song of the summer: check out "i wanna know girls" by portastic, which include's superchunk vocalist mac mccaughan. personally, i just bought "gold digger" by kayne west.

art music and charity all in one

special thx to sneakmove pal bomarr for mailing in this custom collaged fender acoustic guitars for charity page (and apologies for snoozing on the link for so long). orange twin is a progressively minded, environmentally conscious record label, doing some admirable work.
hey...........
this is great! orange twin is selling guitars that have been covered with jeff mangum (neutral milk hotel)'s collage art. only $900 a piece...and it goes to charity....

(thanks, bomarr.)

robot watch: in-home robot unvieled

looking like something from the jetsons, wakamaru is the most expensive alarm clock in the world ($14,300). it recognizes 10,000 words, but if none of those are "cook me another pizza, robot" then i want my money back. as a point of reference, calvitto's sells three pizza strips for $1.50.

attention gamers and nerds

maybe you're more of a game-geek than I, and have heard of the nintendo micro. if so, then the pics and info won't be of news to you. but for me, this is all new and strange. and it looks a bit too basic for advanced applications. what's it do? what's it play? do people still like this stuff? those things, i don't have answers to.

today's fourth movie trailer post

because i've been loving watching 'em. because i thought this movie was a bad idea when i first heard about it. and because i had no idea that jack black was involved--and after watching the trailer for king kong, i think he's a perfect fit. he's does his thing as real, sincere and uniquely as bill murray. damn i love those guys.

mp3 players: one maker less

rio, one of the first portable mp3 player manufacturers, announced today that it will no longer be selling portable digital music players. the press release has more information on their future plans--something about networked home electronics (whatever that means) and boston acoustics (they bought the speaker company a while back). while being one of the top companies in this field, i still don't know anyone who has one of their products, a testament to the dominance of the ipod. personally, i think a name change would be a good next move.

one more movie trailer

you'll want to stop at your local dealer's spot on the way to see this movie. damn, you might want to before you even watch this: mirrormask trailer.

another trailer to watch

a scanner darkly - this one looks siiiiiiiick. click here to watch.

(thanks, sweet eric.)

new movie from the creator of buffy

mostly noteworthy because of what unified fans can do. joss whedon, creator and caretaker of the buffy, angel, roswell and so forth universe (a real comic geek's god) has a movie coming shortly called "serenity" based on the incomplete and canceled series, "firefly." supposedly the viewer's fervor has convinced the movie studios to produce a feature film. watch the trailer here.

fiona apple: the anti-kanye west

mike elizondo

the retooled version of fiona apple's extraordinary machine will be released on october 4. in a twist, she's ditched the jon brion-produced versions of the album's tracks in favor of new renditions helmed by mike elizondo (eminem, dr. dre, 50 cent). weird shit!

european sneaker news flash

reebok shares soared in after hours trading upon this evening's news that adidas may be making a bid to buy the company. not only affecting cross-town rival nike (both adidas and nike have us hq's in portland oregon), the ramifications stretch into the music world as well.
The possible transaction would bring together two impressive stables of athletes and entertainment endorsers. English soccer star David Beckham and rap artist Missy Elliott are under contract to Adidas.

Reebok in February launched the "I am what I am" marketing campaign, which features pitches from celebrity entertainers and athletes in an effort to draw younger buyers who regard sneakers as high fashion. One of the ads featuring the rapper 50 Cent was pulled in March amid complaints that it glorified gun violence.

He's a big star for the smallest state - a child star that you could count on seeing at a local fair, singing his heart out in a three or four gallon hat next to the Italian sausage stand.
