there’s a swell article in today’s ny times about aaron mcgruder bringing the boondocks to adult swim. some nuggets: 1) regina king took over as the voice of both riley and huey after alicia keys dropped out. 2) it’s the most expensive show ever produced by the cartoon network. 3) jayson blair was the first person to put the boondocks in print, back when he was the editor of the campus paper where he and mcgruder went to college.
Years later, Mr. Blair … would be lampooned in the strip he help[ed] put on the map. “You can actually look at Jayson Blair and say, ‘Wow, you set black people back,’ ” Mr. McGruder said, shaking his head. “A lot of people are accused of that, but he actually did it.”
